Minot High boys take second at BHS-Legacy Invite swim meet

BISMARCK – The Minot High boys swim and dive team made one last trip for the 2024 portion of the season to a four team invite held by the Bismarck high-Legacy team. With the four Bismarck teams and Minot High, each team was able to work on events and attempt for state qualifying marks.

Bismarck Century was able to take first place by a wide margin at 615 team points over Minot High in second place at 497 points at the invite on Saturday, December 21.

The Magicians posted the top time in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:36.25 in the event. Sophomore Luke Neumann was joined by freshman Andrew Francis, junior Caden Brey and senior Logan Hill for the top finish in the event.

Sophomore Tayson Solper recorded a 349.50 in the 1-meter diving for second place. The finish and score were state qualifying. Junior Holden Williams also posted a state qualifying mark at 306.05 for fifth place.

Minot High’s Francis posted a 53.72 in the 100 freestyle for third place as a state qualifying time. Sophomore Gavin King and Brey also posted state qualifying times in the event at fifth and seventh respectively.

Francis also had a state qualifying time in the 50 freestyle at 24.42 for fourth place. Fellow freshman Jameson Langager also qualified in the event in sixth place.

Minot High eighth grader Barrett Hannegrefs recorded at 2:21.59 for third place in the 200 individual medley to qualify for state as well. In the 100 backstroke, senior Carter Larson was third with a 58.76 time- also a state qualifying mark.

Minot High placed fourth in the 200 individual medley relay with Larson, sophomore Jon Folk, Francis and senior Derek Oswald hitting 1:51.85 while Hill, Neumann, senior Tyler Burns and Larson also took fourth in the 400 freestyle relay with a 3:41.98 time.

Larson was fourth in the 100 butterfly at a state qualifying mark of 58.77 while Burns was fourth with a state qualifying 1:08.32 in the 100 breaststroke.

Hill and Neumann qualified in the 200 freestyle at fifth and eighth respectively. Hill also qualified in the 500 freestyle in fifth place.

The Magicians will be off until December 28 when they attend the Mandan Pentathlon. Minot High will kick off the 2025 calendar year with a January 3 dual at Bismarck Century.
