The Minot Boys’ ice hockey season is currently underway. This season, the Magicians are hoping to qualify for state and build on their finish from last year, which coach Jason Bennett talked about.

“This year we are looking to win the West Region regular season title as well as winning two games in the West Region Tournament,” Coach Bennett said. “That qualities you for the state tournament and once you get there we hope to build on our third place finish from last year.”

This season, Minot High is returning 15 players from last year’s team, as well as a starting goalie with tournament experience. Many upperclassmen are great leaders to the underclassmen on the team Coach Bennet mentioned.

Key returning players to keep an eye out for this season are senior Mackley Morelli, senior Aidan Diehl, and junior Devon Keller.

“Mackley Morelli and Aidan Diehl are our two senior captains that do about everything we ask of them, whether it’s the power play or penalty kill these fourth-year letter winners are kids we know we can count on in tough situations,” Coach Bennet said. “Devin Keller will be the starting goalie for us this year and he’s got the size and skill to be one of the best goalies not only in the region but the state as well.”

The Magicians are ready for the target on their backs this year from the competition and are expecting to put forth the best effort on and off the ice.

Beyond wins and losses Minot High is expecting to achieve much more, “We have 11 seniors this year so this may be the last kick of the can for many of them. We hope to build positive relationships that will last long after the season and many careers are over,” Coach Bennet said.
