Majettes win, remain unbeaten, ranked No. 1
The Majettes took a 38-18 halftime lead and fended off the Fargo Davies Eagles for the 70-46 non-conference win on Saturday, December 28, to improve to 6-0 overall. Minot High is at 2-0 in Western Dakota Association (WDA) play and tied for top WDA standings with Bismarck Legacy and Mandan who are both 2-0 in WDA play and 5-0 overall.
Minot High jumped out to a 12-2 lead after five minutes of play, despite the aggressive play of Fargo Davies. That gap remained with the Majettes holding a 22-10 lead after ten minutes of play in the first half. The aggressive, physical play put Davies in foul trouble early and by the end of the first half, the Eagles had eight fouls compared to five for the Majettes.
The Majettes held advantage in the shooting percentages over the Lady Eagles for the game. Minot High shot just over 48-percent from the floor with just over 46-percent from the three-point line. Dargo Davies was just under 27-percent from the floor and 40-percent from the arc.
The one area that the Lady Eagles edged the Majettes in was free throw percentage. Fargo Davies was 8-for-10 while Minot High was 7-for-12 at the line.
Minot High had 22 points off turnovers, ten second chance points and 30 points in the paint. The Majettes had 13 steals in the game and three blocks. Minot High had 11 turnovers compared to 21 for Fargo Davies in the game.
Everett Deschamp posted 14 points and was 3-for-3 from the arc while Karew Lamoureux added 13 in the game. Sydney Aberle was the fourth Majette in double digits in scoring with 12 points and seven rebounds. Leelee Bell led all scoring with 31 points and six rebounds in the win.
Fargo Davies was led by Quinn Skari with 19 points and was 3-for-7 from three-point range for the Lady Eagles.
The Majettes will host Jamestown on January 7 for their next WDA action. Minot High will travel across town to face the Minot North on January 10 for the historic first varsity matchup between the Sentinels and the Majettes.
