Majettes dispatch visiting Blue Jays at Maysa, 3-1
The Jamestown girls hockey team hit the ice at the Maysa Arena fast and furious to start their road trip to Minot. The Blue Jays scored first and held the tempo in their favor for over half of the first period.
The Majettes weathered the storm and played their own game for the rest of the first and the second period to take the home win 3-1 over the visitors.
The Blue Jays got onto the scoreboard first at the 6:42 mark of the first period and pushed their tempo for the majority of the first ten minutes of play.
Minot High’s Yvonne Slind found the net on an even strength goal at the 10:28 mark to even the game at 1-1 with assists earned by Julia Stoner and Brynn Hanson on the play. The Blue Jays started the game outshooting the Majettes for the first ten minutes, but Minot High edged Jamestown 7-6 in shots on goal.
In the second period, Sydnee Bartsch hit an even strength goal at the 6:14 mark to take the 2-1 lead with Fallon Fagerland on the assist. Hanson added her own goal at the 11:46 mark for the 3-1 lead that turned out to be the final score.
Minot High again edged the Blue Jays in shots on goal in the second with the 11-9 advantage.
Neither team scored in the third period of play, although Jamestown had the 8-7 shots on goal advantage in the final period. Minot High had 25 shots on goal in the game compared to 23 for Jamestown.
Faith Seekings sat in the net for the Majettes and faced the 23 shots on goal and saved 22 of those for the win, most notably in the third period. Minot High had the only two penalties in the match in the first period of play.
Minot High will travel to Bismarck Legacy-Bismark High on December 30 for their next on ice action followed by a trip to Jamestown to start 2025 action on Jan. 4.
