Magi open swimming and diving season at home

The Minot High boys swim and dive team hosted their season opening event at the Magic City campus pool with a pair of dual meets against Bismarck High School and Bismarck Legacy.

After 12 events, Minot High had the edge over Bismarck High 115-64 and were edged by Legacy 93-91 for the 1-1 results at the event.

In the 1-meter diving competition, Minot High sophomore Tayson Solper recorded a 199.6 for first place while junior Holden Williams tallied 158.05 for fourth place at the meet.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Minot High A won the event with senior Logan Hill joined by senior Peter Wake, freshman Andrew Francis and senior Carter Larson with a time of 1:35.69 while Minot High B was second with sophomore Gavin King, senior Derek Oswald, sophomore Luke Neumann and senior Tyler Burns posting a 1:40.50 time.

Hill was second in the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle while Oswald was fourth in the freestyle behind Hill.

Junior Caden Brey swam a state qualifying 1:03.08 for second place in the 100 backstroke. Wake took second in the 100 breaststroke with a state qualifying time of 1:06.05 as well as third in the 50 freestyle with a state qualifying time of 23.58. Teammates Barrett Hannegrefs (8th) and Brey each qualified in the 50 freestyle as well.

Larson posted a state qualifying time of 1:00.79 in the 100 butterfly for third place. Francis swam a state qualifying 5:34.26 for third place in the 500 freestyle and Neumann posted a 2:06.30 for fourth place in the 200 freestyle as well.

As a team, Minot High A was in third place of the 200 medley relay with Brey, Wake, Oswald and King. Minot High A was also third in the 400 freestyle relay with Hill, Neumann, Francis and Larson.

The Magicians will host Jamestown in a dual on Tuesday, December 17, at the Magic City campus pool followed by attending the Bismarck High-Legacy Invite on December 21.
