Eaglestaff earns second Summit League Performer of the Week
University of North Dakota (UND) junior guard Treysen Eaglestaff has been named the Summit League Men’s Basketball Peak Performer of the Week. It’s his second honor this season and the fifth of his career as a Fighting Hawk.
The Bismarck native’s career night vs #6 Alabama highlights a two-game week as he earns fifth such honor of career
Eaglestaff averaged 29.5 points per game which included a historic effort against #6 Alabama and a home win over South Dakota Mines.
Entering the highly anticipated matchup against the Crimson Tide, Eaglestaff needed 40 points to become the 39th player in program history and the 12th of the D1 era to reach 1,000 career points. He delivered.
The junior guard led UND to a near upset of the SEC foe as he notched career highs in scoring (40), field goals made (15), field goals attempted (30), three-point field goals made (8) and three-point field goal attempts (18) which now stands as a single-game program record.
The performance made him the first mid-major player since 2012 to score 40 points against an AP Top 10 opponent.
Additionally, the scoring effort set a new Betty Engelstad Sioux Center single-game record, was the first such effort by a Hawk since 2017 and the fifth DI player to reach 40 points in a game this season. The 40 points were the most scored by an opposing player against Alabama this season.
A pair of step-back, corner threes, one from the far side that tied the game at 78, and a second from the near side that cut the deficit to 91-88 with under 30 seconds remaining, will arguably be the two shots ingrained in the minds of Fighting Hawks fans forever.
Two nights later, Eaglestaff played 20 minutes and went for 19 points on 60 percent shooting against the Hardrockers. It marked his 20th consecutive game in double-figure scoring.
For the week, Eaglestaff scored 59 points on 53.3 percent (24-for-45) shooting in just under 56 minutes of action. He went 8-of-22 from beyond-the-arc and made 3-of-3 free throw attempts. He totaled three assists, six rebounds and three steals.
Eaglestaff’s first honor this season came following a 24.0 ppg effort in wins against Dickinson State and Utah Valley.
