Central McLean, Our Redeemer’s move on with wins on day two
Day two of the Our Redeemer’s Boys Basketball Tournament featured the local Mustangs in game one as Surrey faced Central McLean- who had received votes in the preseason polls and the host school taking on Parshall.
The Knights were ranked eighth in the preseason polls for Division B prior to the games played at their school this week.
Central McLean 83, Surrey 46
The Surrey Mustangs had yet to play a game in the 2024-2025 season and faced a Central McLean team that had one game- and a win- under their belt so far. By the time the game had gone five minutes, the Cougars had the 15-4 lead that grew to 24-7 by the end of the first quarter of play.
The rebounding and length of the Cougars was too much for the younger Mustangs as Central McLean stretched the lead to 49-15 at the half and kept that pace to a 73-27 lead at the end of the third quarter of play.
The Cougars worked the bench rotation in the fourth quarter and were outscored 10-19 by Surrey to finish the game.
Central McLean will face Our Redeemer’s on Friday, December 20, in the bottom half of the semifinal bracket at 7:30 p.m. while Surrey will take on Parshall/North Shore-Plaza in the consolation bracket earlier the same day.
Our Redeemer’s 88, Parshall/North Shore-Plaza 24
The Braves had played a tough Washburn team last week to start their 2024-2025 season and added their second loss to the record as the Knights shook off first game rust to win their season opening contest.
Parshall/North Shore-Plaza showed energy and kept pace for the start of the contest. Our Redeemer’s size and depth off the bench quickly came to the surface and the Knights lead was 19-5 midway through the first quarter of play. Our Redeemer’s led 26-9 to start the second quarter.
The Knights began to rebound on both ends of the hardwood and had extended the lead to 36-15 midway through the second and took the 48-15 lead into halftime.
With the win, Our Redeemer’s will face a very tough Central McLean team in the second semifinal match on Friday while the Braves will tackle the Mustangs on the same day.
