Bottineau-Rugby Braves go 1-1 over the weekend
BOTTINEAU — The Bottineau-Rugby Braves hockey team hosted the Midgets on Saturday and rebounded from the Jamestown match the night before for the 6-5 win over Dickinson.
Dickinson scored two unanswered goals in the first period to take the 2-0 lead. Bottineau-Rugby had three penalties in the first period compared to none for the Midgets. Dickinson had 15 shots on goal compared to 13 for the Braves.
Bottineau-Rugby responded with two goals in the second period compared to one by Dickinson. The Midgets held the 3-2 lead with 14 shots on goal compared to ten for the Braves. Dickinson had two penalties while Bottineau-Rugby had one in the period.
The third period had three scores for the home team and two for the visitors for a 5-5 tie at the end of regulation. There were no penalties in the third and the Braves outshot the Midgets 11-7 in the third period.
In the shootout in overtime, Bottineau-Rugby scored one more than the visitors on seven shots compared to five for Dickinson.
Tukkar Fedja scored the first goal for the Braves with Rylan Becci-Villas providing the assist. Grady Glasner had the second goal with Fedje and Brody Nordmark providing the assists. Peyton Getzlaff had the next score for the Braves while Khaliel Abdurrahman hit the next goal with assists going to Gavin Bartsch and Will Demontigney.
Nordmark had the fifth goal of the game with Abdurrahman and Getzlaff getting the assists. Abdurrahman and Getzlaff were the two shots that won the contest in the shootout.
The Braves have a home contest with Hazen-Beulah listed as their next match on Friday, Dec. 20, in Bottineau.
Jamestown 5, Bottineau-Rugby 3
The Blue Jays made the trip north to Bottineau for a matchup on home ice on Friday.
The Braves scored first in the first period for the 1-0 lead. Jamestown scored four goals in the second period compared to the one goal for the home team for the Blue Jays to hold the 4-2 lead going into the third period.
Each team scored a goal in the third for the 5-3 Jamestown win.
Lewis Gorder fed the puck to Khaliel Abdurrahman for the first goal. Abdurrahman hit the net in the second period off a Grady Glasner pass. Peyton Getzaff found the goal in the third period off the Abdurrahman and Landon Siemens assists for the scoring.
The Braves had 23 shots on goal compared to 31 by Jamestown. The Blue Jays had one penalty in the game compared to two for Bottineau-Rugby in the matchup.
