Royals, Lakers win and advance to semifinals

The Region 6 volleyball tournament kicked off on Monday, November 11, at the Minot Auditorium with four games. Solid volleyball for all fans to watch with four teams out of eight advancing to the semifinal round of play today.

South Prairie-Max 3, Towner-Granville-Upham (TGU) 0

The top seeded district 12 Royals faced the fourth seed from district 11 Titans in round one. South Prairie-Max set the tone in frame one with the 25-16 win and followed that with a 25-13 win in frame two.

The TGU Titans fought point for point in the third frame only to see the Royals widen the lead down the final third of the set with South Prairie-Max taking the 25-20 win and advance to the semifinal game.

Azjiah Trader led the Royals with 21 kills in the game along with two blocks and a pair of aces. Reagan Trudell tallied 23 assists and six digs for South Prairie-Max while Delaney Hankel had 21 digs and a pair of aces as well.

Skylar Beck had six kills while Abby Miccelson added four of her own. Mikkelson also had two blocks at the net. Hailey Sys had 12 digs and Amber Braasch had seven for the Royals in the win.

TGU was led by Ashley Martodam with 12 kills, ten digs and a pair of blocks. Lily Lageson added seven kills, two blocks and a pair of aces. Leah Bryn had ten assists and eight digs while Bostyn Bailey tallied 12 digs for the Titans. Josie Bryn posted two blocks and two aces as well in the effort.

South Prairie-Max will face the Lakers from Des Lacs-Burlington in the semifinal match today, November 12, at 6 p.m. at the Minot Auditorium.

Des Lacs-Burlington 3, Nedrose 0

The district 12 third seed Lakers faced the district 11 two seed Cardinals in round one of the Region 6 tournament in the first bracket of play. Des Lacs-Burlington took frame one 25-11 while Nedrose played point for point in the second frame. The Lakers held on to the momentum at the end of the second for the 25-18 win.

Frame three went to the Lakers 25-15 for Des Lacs-Burlington to move on for the semifinal round of the tournament.

The Lakers were led by Piper Feller with nine kills and nine digs. Logen Ystaas and Ava Brown each added seven kills at the net. Ystaas had 16 digs while Brown also had one block and a pair of aces. Kaylee Werner had 25 assists while Hailey Goetz posted two aces and Mycah Faken added a block in the win.

Lily Nelson posted ten kills, 16 digs and two blocks for Nedrose. Kenna Huff added six kills, four aces and 16 digs as well. Brynley Bertsch had 17 assists and 12 digs for the Lady Cardinals while Keeley Brown added 11 digs in the effort.
