Kari Gibb/MDN Minot High goalie Promesa Phelps (31) faces and stops another shootout attempt at the end of regulation in season opening action against the Bismarck Century Patriots on Tuesday, November 26, at the Maysa Arena.

The Majettes opened the season on the ice against the visiting Lady Patriots from Bismarck Century. The regulation time ended and the teams needed a shootout session that lasted 11 attempts by each side before the visitors were able to take the 5-4 win in the end on the final shot in the extra action.

Minot High jumped onto the scoreboard first. Sydnee Bartsch hit the net on an assist by Brynn Hanson at the 3:15 mark of the first period. The Patriots answered nearly five minutes later for the 1-1 tie. The Majettes took the lead back at the 15:11 mark on an unassisted goal by Hanson.

The second period went scoreless for nearly seven and a half minutes before Hanson found the net for her second score with assists from Bartsch and Kathryn Gareas for the 3-1 lead. Century worked the net twice as the second period came to a close with the 3-3 tie.

With only 2:19 gone in the third period, the Lady Patriots posted a goal for their first lead of the match. The 4-3 score for Century for two minutes when Hanson hit for her hat-trick of goals. Bartsch and Juia Stoner had the assists in the effort to tie the game at 4-4 as regulation ended.

Century had 25 shots on goal and Promessa Phelps was able to keep 21 of those out of the net. The Majettes had 25 shots on goal as well with 21 being stopped by the Patriots.

The Majettes will host Bismarck Legacy-Bismarck High on Tuesday, December 3, when they skate again.
