MSU women’s soccer falls in NSIC final, takes second place
MANKATO, Minn. – Minot State University’s (MSU) women’s soccer team faced a tough battle in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) finals, falling 2-0 to Minnesota State Mankato on Sunday, November 17, at the Pitch.
The beavers ended their season with an 11-4-5 overall record after the closely contested match.
Siriana Gudino had 2 saves after facing 12 shots, four of which were on target. The Beavers outshot Minnesota State with 13 attempts, six of which were on goal, compared to Minnesota State’s four shots on target from 12 attempts.
The Beavers also had seven corner kicks throughout the match. MSU was issued one yellow card during the match
“The team did great today. Everyone’s support and effort was terrific,” said MSU Head Coach T.J. Perez. “We dominated portions of the game, outshooting Mankato 13-12 and 6-4 on target and earning seven corners. I am very, very proud of how much this group has accomplished this season.”
Four MSU players received all-tournament team recognition: Manuela Pacheco Martinez, Siriana Gudino, Sofia Galvez and Morgen Fried were all recognized for their effort and play in the final match.
Monday, November 18, the NCAA announced its at-large bids for the national tournament. MSU was snubbed for the event.
The NSIC will send three teams to the NCAA Central Region soccer tournament as Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota State and St. Cloud State will advance to NCAA postseason play.
The NSIC regular season and tournament champions of Minnesota State University (14-1-6) earned the second seed and will host seventh seeded St. Cloud State (11-3-5) in the opening round in Mankato, Minnesota on Friday, November 22.
This marks the second straight NCAA postseason appearance for St. Cloud State and 17th for Minnesota State.
Concordia-St. Paul (13-3-4) earned the sixth seed and will take on the three seed Missouri Western (15-2-3) on Friday, November 22, in Mankato, Minnesota. The Golden Bears are making their second NCAA appearance and first since 2019.
The Beavers’ season showcased their resilience and team unity, leaving fans and coaches alike proud of their accomplishments.
