MSU takes down Moorhead in regular season finale
The Minot State University (MSU) women’s soccer team ended the regular season on a high note, shutting out Minnesota State University, Moorhead (MSUM) 4-0 on Thursday, November 7, at Herb Parker Stadium.
The impressive win advances the Beavers’ record to 10-3-4 overall and 8-3-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play, securing strong momentum as they head into the postseason.
The Beavers struck first with Mia Lewis finding the net in the 17th minute, notching her second goal of the season off an assist from Anna Miotto. The offensive push continued, with Sofia Galvez scoring her second goal of the season in the 25th minute, assisted by Elena Pacheco, giving MSU a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, the Beavers extended their lead with Miotto’s seventh goal of the season in the 65th minute, assisted by Iliana Rivera. Rivera capped off the scoring in the 72nd minute with her third goal of the season, bringing the final score to 4-0.
Goalkeeper Siriana Gudino kept the Dragons at bay, recording one save from MSU Moorhead’s two total shots. MSU dominated offensively with 19 shots on goal. The Beavers scored one unassisted goal in the game.
As the NSIC playoffs begin on Monday, November 11, the top seeded team will host the eighth in the standings. Four hosts five, three hosts six and the second seed will host the seventh.
Going into the final games of the NSIC regular season, MSU was at fifth in the standings and would travel to Concordia- St. Paul who were at the fourth slot in the standings.
The Beavers will now shift focus to the NSIC Playoffs, with their first-round game set for Monday on the road. The official tournament bracket is yet to be released, but MSU will aim to carry this winning momentum into postseason competition.
