MSU men’s hockey team takes down Jamestown

The Minot State University (MSU) men’s hockey team made it look easy against #1 Jamestown on Tuesday, November 12, at the Maysa Arena. The #2 Beavers scored six goals against the top ranked Jamestown to secure the victory by a final score of 6-1.

With the win, the Beavers improved their record to 11-1-1, while Jamestown dropped to 13-1-0.

The Beavers were in full control throughout the first period scoring 2 goals and holding the opposing Jimmies scoreless throughout the first 20 minutes.

Christian Kadolph was the Beaver to draw first blood, scoring a power play goal at 4:52 into the first period to put the Beavers ahead 1-0.

Colby Joseph was the next Beaver to find the back of the net in the first period on a goal scored at 16:45 into the period to push Minot State’s lead to 2-0. The Beaver’s goaltender, Jake Anthony, held the Jimmies scoreless in the first period tallying 11 saves on 11 shots on goal.

Darius Makse got the scoring started in the second period for Jamestown with a goal scored at 7:45 into the period to cut Minot State’s lead down to 2-1. This goal would end up being the only goal scored for Jamestown in this game with Minot State scoring 4 unanswered goals.

Walker Jerome scored the lone Beavers goal in the second period at 11:13 into the period to give Minot State a 3-1 lead. Colby Joseph scored his second goal of the game at 9:48 into the third period to put the Beavers ahead 4-1.

Joey Moffatt then scored the fifth goal of the game for the Beavers at 16:09 on the power play to make the score 5-1. Only 38 seconds later, Moffatt scored his second goal of the game, also on the power play, to give MSU a 6-1 lead. Jake Anthony held the Jimmies scoreless in the third period with 11 saves on 11 shots on goal.

Reid Arnold, Jay Buchholz (2), Austin Clyne, Matthew Yakubowski (3), Brayden Pawluk and Colby Joseph were all credited with assists in Tuesday’s game. Jake Anthony led the way in goal for the Beavers tallying 26 saves on 27 shots on goal and improving his record to 6-1-0 on the season.

Following Tuesday’s 6-1 win over Jamestown, the Beavers will be back in action in Fremont, Nebraska for a two-game series against Midland University. The Beavers will take on Midland on Friday, November 15, at 7:30 pm for game one, and on Saturday, November 16, at 7:30 pm for game two.
