MSU men sweep two on road

FREEMONT, NE – The Minot State University (MSU) men’s hockey team made the trip south to Nebraska to face the 19th ranked Midland University in a two game series with the first game on Friday, November 15, and the second on Saturday, November 16.

The MSU Beavers men’s hockey team shutout #19 Midland University 3-0 on Saturday, November 16, to sweep the two-game series. The Beavers outscored Midland in the two-game series 9-1 to increase their winning streak to 10 games.

With the series sweep, the #2 Beavers improved their record to 13-1-1, while #19 Midland dropped to 8-10-1.

The Beavers got on the board at 11:56 into the first period on a goal scored by Walker Jerome to take a 1-0 lead. The Beavers goaltender, Jake Anthony, held Midland scoreless in the first period with three saves on three shots on goal.

The second period was quiet for both sides as both goalies kept it a 1-0 game throughout the period. Anthony tallied four saves on four shots on goal, while Midland’s goalie, Nahuel Veyan, tallied 16 saves on 16 shots on goal.

The Beavers took a 2-0 lead at 15:58 into the third period on a power play goal scored by

Logan Rands. Reece Henry was the next Beaver to find the back of the net with a goal scored at 17:22 into the period to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead.

Anthony completed the shutout in the third period with seven saves on seven shots on goal to secure the 3-0 victory for MSU.

Christian Kadolph, Brett Tataryn, Matthew Yakubowski and Jay Buchholz were credited with assists in tonight’s game.

Anthony led the way in goal tallying 14 saves on 14 shots on goal improving his record to 6-1-1 on the season.

Following MSU’s two-game series sweep over #19 Midland University, the Beavers will be back in action on the road in Chesterfield, Missouri for the Maryville Showcase.

Game one is on Thursday, November 21, at 5:15 pm against the University of Arizona, game two is on Friday, November 22, at 3:15 pm against Liberty University, and game three is on Saturday, November 23, at 3:45 pm against Maryville University.

Midland University 1

The MSU Beavers men’s hockey team defeated #19 Midland University 6-1 on Friday, November 15, on the road in Nebraska. The Beavers were led in this game by Colby Joseph who scored three goals to complete the hat trick.

With the win, the Beavers improve their record to 12-1-1, while Midland falls to 8-9-1.

The Beavers got off to a fast start in the first period with a goal scored by Joseph at 24 seconds into the initial period to give MSU the 1-0 lead. The Beavers took a 2-0 lead at 15:38 into the period on a goal scored by Brett Tataryn.

MSU held Midland scoreless in the first period thanks to Will Dyke who tallied six saves on six shots on goal.

Midland got on the board first in the second period on a goal scored by Thomas Babb at 1:46 into the period to make the score 2-1 in favor of Minot State. The Beavers answered back with a goal of their own scored by Reece Henry on the power play at 8:39 into the period to put the Beavers ahead 3-1.

The third period was all Minot State as the Beavers would score an additional three unanswered goals. Joseph scored his second goal of the night on the power play at 13:31 into the period to extend MSU’s lead to 4-1 and Joseph would then score his third goal of the night to complete the hat trick on the power play at 18:52 into the period to put the Beavers ahead 5-1.

Ben Johnson would go on to score his first goal of the season at 19:52 into the third period to extend the Beaver’s lead to 6-1. Dyke held Midland scoreless in the third period with ten saves on ten shots on goal to secure the victory by a final score of 6-1.

Christian Kadolph, Logan Rands, Joseph, Matthew Yakubowski (2), Joey Moffatt, Trenton Curtis and Logan Cyca were all credited with assists in the game.

Dyke led the way in goal for the Beavers tallying 24 saves on 25 shots on goal to secure the victory and improve his record to 5-0-0.
