MSU men No. 2, women No. 6 in latest ACHA hockey polls

Kari GIbb/MDN MSU sophomore Paige Kozak, in previous action, and her Beavers teammates are up to number six in the ACHA hockey polls.

The Minot State University (MSU) men’s hockey team remained No. 2 in this week’s American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I men’s hockey poll, based on records at the start of the week, and the Beaver women climbed to No. 6 in the ACHA Division I women’s poll after a weekend sweep at the WMCH Showcase.

MSU (11-1-1 overall, 8-1-0 MCH) are No. 2 behind No. 1 Jamestown (13-1-0) based on records prior to Tuesday night’s 6-1 victory by the Beavers over the Jimmies at the Maysa Arena.

The Beavers have won eight straight, including Tuesday’s upset of formally unbeaten Jamestown.

Ohio, which is the last team to beat MSU men with a 2-1 overtime win last month, moved up to No. 3, Adrian climbed to No. 4, and UNLV slipped to No. 5. MSU’s in-state rival, Mary, climbed to No. 13 this week.

MSU next plays at Midland on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors are ranked No. 19 this week.

The MSU women, winners of four straight, climbed from No. 9 to No. 6 this week as they beat then No. 13-Lindenwood on the road and No. 3 McKendree on the road at the WMCH Showcase over the weekend.

The Lady Beavers (10-3-0 overall, 8-3-0 WMCH) look to climb even higher this weekend as MSU hosts No. 4-ranked Adrian (Mich.) in a rematch of last March’s ACHA National Championship game.

Puck drops both days on the two-game series at 3:45 p.m. at the Maysa Arena, as the Beavers host the Bulldogs (11-3-1 overall, 3-0-0 CCWHA) on Friday, November 15, and Saturday, November 16.

Liberty (Va.) remained No. 1 in the women’s poll and Maryville held on to the No. 2 spot. McKendree was No. 3, Adrian moved up to No. 4, and Midland climbed a spot to No. 5.

Starting at $2.99/week.
