MSU men drop two at Maryville Showcase
CHESTERFIELD, MO – The Minot State University (MSU) Beavers men’s hockey team tied in regulation 2-2 and then lost in the shootout 3-4 against eighth ranked Maryville University in the final day of the Maryville Showcase on Saturday, November 23.
With the shootout loss, the second ranked Beavers fall to 14-2-2, while Maryville University improves to 11-6-3.
The Beavers got the scoring started in the first period on a power play goal scored by
Jay Buchholz at 9:18 into the period to give MSU a 1-0 lead. Maryville was held scoreless in the first period by MSU’s goalie, Will Dyke, who had 8 saves on 8 shots on goal.
The Beavers extended their lead to 2-0 at 8:40 into the second period on a goal scored by
Walker Jerome. Maryville cut the Beaver’s lead down to 2-1 at 9:35 into the period on a goal scored by Will Smith.
Liberty tied the game up at 2-2 at 15:13 into the third period on a goal scored by Campbell Mclean.
Both teams were scoreless in the overtime period to send the game to a shootout. After a 23-player shootout, Minot would fall to Maryville by a final shootout score of 3-4.
Austin Clyne, Logan Rands, Christian Kadolph and Brayden Pawluk were credited with assists in the game.
The Beavers will be back in action on Friday, December 6, against #1 University of Jamestown at 3:30 pm in Jamestown, North Dakota. The Beavers will also be in action on Saturday, December 7, against Jamestown at 7:30 pm at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds (All Seasons Arena) in Minot, North Dakota.
Liberty University 5, MSU Men 2
The MSU Beavers men’s hockey team fell to seventh ranked Liberty University 2-5 in game two of the Maryville Showcase. This loss ends the impressive 11 game win streak for the second ranked Beavers dropping their record to 14-2-1 on the season, while Liberty improves to 11-5-2.
The Beavers drew first blood in the first period on a power play goal scored by Matthew Yakubowski at 11:31 into the period to make the score 1-0. Liberty was held scoreless in the first period by MSU’s goaltender, Jake Anthony, with 12 saves on 12 shots on goal.
MSU got the scoring started in the second period on a goal scored by Trenton Curtis at 6:00 into the period to increase the Beaver’s lead to 2-0. Liberty got on the board at 15:37 into the period on a goal scored by Kal Essenmacher to cut MSU’s lead down to 2-1. Liberty tied the game up at 2-2 on a power play goal scored by Jackson Vercellono at 19:57 into the period.
Liberty took a 2-3 lead at 2:15 into the third period on a goal scored by Hayden DeMars. Liberty increased their lead to 2-4 on a power play goal scored by Jacob Kalandyk at 10:21 into the period. Liberty extended their lead to 2-5 on an empty net goal scored by Maguire Ratzlaff at 18:28 into the period to seal the win for Liberty.
Brayden Pawluk, Joey Moffatt (2) and Christian Kadolph were credited with assists in the game.
