Minot State men win game one at Maryville Showcase
CHESTERFIELD, MO – The Minot State University (MSU) Beavers men’s hockey team defeated No.16 University of Arizona, 3-2, in game one of the Maryville Showcase on Thursday, November 21.
With the win, the No.2 Beavers improve to 14-1-1 on the season, while Arizona falls to 5-7-0 on the season.
The Beavers were in full control of the first period against Arizona. Minot State got on the board first on a goal scored by Payton Jerome at 14:52 into the period to make the score 1-0. MSU’s goaltender, Will Dyke, held Arizona scoreless in the first period with 11 saves on 11 shots on goal.
Arizona answered back in the second period on a goal scored by Riley Ruh at 7:25 into the period to tie the game up at 1-1. Arizona’s goaltender, Hadyn Gould, held the Beavers scoreless in the second period with 16 saves on 16 shots on goal.
Arizona took a 1-2 lead early in the third period on a power play goal scored by Riley Ruh, his second goal of the game, at 3:06 into the period. The Beavers went on to tie the game up at 2-2 on a goal scored by Logan Rands at 11:53 into the period.
The Beavers wasted no time taking a 3-2 lead on a goal scored by Joey Moffatt at 12:39 into the period. Will Dyke held strong in net for the Beavers for the remainder of the third period to secure the 3-2 victory over the University of Arizona.
Reece Henry, Walker Jerome, Kieran Cooke and Jay Buchholz were credited with assists in the game.
Kieran Cooke’s assist was his first on the season. Will Dyke led the way in goal for the Beavers tallying 26 saves on 26 shots on goal to improve his record to 6-0-0 on the season.
Following the win against No. 16 University of Arizona on Thursday, November 21, the Beavers will be back in action in game two and game three of the Maryville Showcase in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Game two was scheduled for Friday, November 22, against No. 7 Liberty University at 3:15 pm, and game three is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, against No.8 Maryville University at 3:45 pm.
