Minot North advances to quarters with Play-in win

Minot North took three sets from Watford City on Thursday night to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals of the West Dakota Association (WDA) Region Tournament, which will be held on Thursday, November 14, at Minot High School.

Minot North won the first set 25-14. With that momentum, the Sentinels easily won the second set 25-9. In the third and final set, Minot North beat Watford City 25-22, taking the match win 3-0.

For the winning Sentinels Cadence Shipman led the team with 15 kills, one block, seven digs, and four aces. Aven Kelly had nine kills, eight digs, and assisted a block. Kaiya Chell led the team with 21 assists and eight digs. McKinnley Kragh had four kills, one assist, four digs, and three aces.

For the Wolves Bailey Mattson led the team with eight kills and four digs. Adi Schaff had one kill, five digs, and one block. Hope Cross led the team with 13 assists and Fallon Sampsel had seven kills.

Minot North will play Minot High on Thursday, November 14 at 7 P.M. at Minot High School for the opening day of the West Region Tournament.

The opening match for the Sentinels in their first varsity season was on the road at Minot High on September 3, for the WDA regular season. The Majettes won that match 3-0 over Minot North.

The second time the two teams faced each other was a home matchup on October 15, which was a 3-2 win for the Sentinels to even the series for the regular season.

For both teams, the WDA Regional Tournament will have the stands packed and the court full of playoff energy.

Williston 3, Mandan 0

The nine seed from Mandan made the trip to the eighth-seeded Williston for a WDA Play-In game in preparation for the WSA Tournament next week at Minot High. The Braves scored 25-10, 28-26 and 25-16 for the sweep.

Williston will face the top seeds from Bismarck Century in the first game of the 2024 WDA Volleyball Tournament.

Legacy 3, TMCHS 0

The fifth-seeded Bismarck Legacy Sabers hosted the 12th seed from Turtle Mountain Community High School (TMCHS) for the chance to move on in the WDA Tournament play next week. The hosts scored 25-13, 25-8, and 25-8 for the three-frame sweep.

Legacy will face the fourth-seeded Midgets from Dickinson in the second game at the WDA Tournament hosted by Minot High on Thursday, November 14.

Jamestown 3, St. Mary’s 0

The seventh-seeded Blue Jays hosted the tenth-seeded Saints in the WDA Play-In contest on Thursday, November 7, and the hosts from Jamestown scored 25-14, 25-23, and 25-21 to sweep the contest.

Jamestown will face the second-seeded Demons from Bismarck High in the third game of the opening day at the WDA Tournament in Minot.
