Districts 11, 16 set for tournament finals on Monday

Both district 11 and district 16 worked though the semifinals in preparation for tournament finals on Monday, November 4, prior to region play next week.

District 11 at Velva

Semifinals

Rugby 3, Newburg-Westhope 1

Rugby and Newburg-Westhope showcased how evenly matched the two teams were as frame one was decided 35-33 by the top seeds from Rugby. The Panthers won frame two as well with a 25-18 score.

Newburg-Westhope answered with a 25-20 win in the third frame but Rugby worked the fourth frame 25-14 for the win and the chance to play in the finals.

Nedrose 3, Drake-Anamoose 2

Nedrose, the sixth seed in the district, lost frame one to Drake-Anamoose 25-21, but the Cardinals posted 25-19 and 26-24 wins in frames two and three for the 2-1 lead over the second seeds.

Drake-Anamoose took frame four 25-23 setting up the deciding fifth frame. Nedrose upset Drake-Anamoose 15-11 for the win and the chance to face Rugby in the finals.

Bottineau 3, Velva 0

In the consolation round, Bottineau beat the hosts from Velva 25-20, 25-23 and a fiercely competitive third frame 31-29 for the closely contested sweep.

District 16 at Divide County

Semifinals

Kenmare-Bowbells 3, Powers Lake-Burke Central 0

The top seed Kenmare-Bowbells had a bye in round one and faced familiar foes in the fourth seeds from Powers Lake-Burke Central.

The Lady Honkers showed no rust as they jumped out to a 25-6 win in frame one followed by 25-17 and 25-21 scores for the sweep and a chance in the finals.

Tioga 3, Ray 2

The third seeds from Tioga battle for five games with the second seeds from Ray. Tioga won frames one and three with scores of 25-21 and 26-24 respectively. Ray won frames two and four with scores of 25-18 and 25-22 respectively.

The familiar foes battled in the fifth frame with Tioga posting the upset 15-10 and a shot at Kenmare-Bowbells in the finals.
