Dobbins led the Beavers (1-7, 0-1) with 21 points and seven rebounds. Aguilar tacked on 15 points and Mogen helped out with a double-double of 12 points and ten rebounds.

“We came out with great energy and effort. I think it’s the best we’ve probably competed for four quarters” said MSU head coach Ryan Clark.

The MSU offense was very productive from three point land, pouring in ten threes on 25 attempts. Dobbins was the most prolific shooter for the Beavers, draining five treys in the contest.

The MSU defense caused its share of mistakes in Tuesday’s game, forcing 15 Minnesota-Crookston turnovers. Those takeaways turned into ten points on the other end of the floor. Sydney Gustavsson led the way individually for the Beavers with three steals.

After falling behind 5-2, MSU went on a 13-0 run with 6:31 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Mogen, to take a 15-5 lead. The Beavers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 15-9 advantage.

MSU relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 15 points.

The Beavers maintained their lead in the game’s second frame and entered halftime with a 34-29 edge. MSU dominated in the paint, scoring 14 of its 19 points close to the basket.

MSU then lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Golden Eagles 57-45 entering the fourth. MSU knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 11 total points.

The Lady Beavers came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Dobbins’ three, to shrink the deficit to 57-51 with 9:09 to go in the contest.

Minnesota-Crookston responded and outscored the Beavers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 70-63. MSU fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 18 points.
