Beavers win two against Grand Canyon University
The Minot State Beavers defeated #14 Grand Canyon University 4-1 on Saturday, November 2, to sweep the two-game series. The Beavers came into this game after defeating Grand Canyon on Friday, November 1, by a score of 4-2. This win improves #3 Minot State’s record to 8-1-1, while #14 Grand Canyon moves to 3-3-1 on the season.
The first period was all Minot State as the Beavers drew first blood on a power play goal scored by Logan Rands at 15:58 into the period to put the Beavers on top 1-0. The Beaver’s goaltender, Will Dyke, kept Grand Canyon scoreless in the first period with 6 saves on 6 shots on goal.
Minot State quickly added to their lead in the second period on a goal scored byTrenton Curtis at 4:06 into the period to put the Beavers ahead 2-0. The goal scored by Trenton Curtis was his first goal on the season. Grand Canyon cut into Minot State’s lead with a power play goal scored by Owen Hanson at 14:34 into the period to make the score 2-1 in favor of Minot State.
The Beavers, once again, got the scoring started in the third period on a goal scored by Eric Krywy at 8:14 into the period to make the score 3-1. The goal scored by Eric Krywy was his first goal on the season. The Beaver’s tacked on another with a goal scored by Joey Moffatt at 10:52 into the period to increase Minot State’s lead to 4-1. Will Dyke, once again, held Grand Canyon scoreless in the third period with 6 saves on 6 shots on goal to give the Beavers the win 4-1.
Reid Arnold, Jay Buchholz (2), Joey Moffatt, Christian Kadolph, Colby Joseph and Trenton Curtis were all credited with assists in the game. Will Dyke had 16 saves on 17 shots on goal in net for the Beavers to secure the victory.
The Beavers will be back in action at home in a two-game set against Waldorf. The Beavers host Waldorf on Friday, November 8, at 1:00 pm, and on Saturday, November 9, at 3:00 pm at the Maysa Arena.

On Friday November 1, Minot State men’s hockey team took on #14 Grand Canyon University in game one of a two-game set. Minot State came away with the win by a score of 4-2. With this win, the Beavers have improved their record to 7-1-1, while Grand Canyon falls to 3-3-0 on the season.
The first period was kept quiet with a solid performance by Minot State and Grand Canyon’s goalie. Minot State’s goalie, Jake Anthon, had 6 saves on 6 shots on goal. Grand Canyon’s goalie, Jacob Demoranville, had 12 saves on 12 shots on goal.
Jay Buchholz started the scoring in the second period with a goal scored at 2:33 into the period to put the Beavers on top 1-0. Reid Arnold was the second Beaver to find the back of the net in the second period with a power play goal scored at 10:27 into the period. Grand Canyon remained scoreless throughout the first two periods.
Richard Nelson cut down the Beaver’s lead with a goal scored 2:00 into the third period to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Beavers. Josh Pederson scored his first goal on the season at 4:34 into the period to extend the Beavers’ lead to 3-1.
Jay Buchholz scored his second goal of the night at 6:37 into the third period to put Minot State ahead by a score of 4-1. Triston Tabucol scored a power play goal at 8:14 into the third period to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Beavers.
Joey Moffatt, Trenton Curtis, Reece Henry and Braden Pawluk were all credited with assists in tonight’s game for the Beavers.Jake Anthony led the way in goal for the Beavers improving his record to 5-1-1. Jake Anthony recorded 23 saves on 25 shots on goal to secure the victory.
