Beavers take one on road, one at home over Marauders

The Minot State University (MSU) men’s hockey team faced off against the University of Mary Marauders for their second game in four days. The first game was a road win for the Beavers. The second game became a home win for MSU as they posted the 4-1 victory at the Maysa Arena on Wednesday, October 30, for their third win in a row.

MSU got onto the scoreboard first with a goal by Colby Joseph at the 14:38 mark of the first period. Christian Kadolph and Eric Krywy were credited with the assists. The Marauders were able to even the score at the 10:09 mark of the second period on a power play.

The Beavers were able to take the 2-1 lead at the 17:45 mark of the second period when Jay Buchholtz found the net from passing by Trenton Curtis and Ben Johnson.

MSU was the only team to score in the third period when Joey Moffatt found net at the 8:27 mark on Buchholtz and Curtis assists and Logan Rands hit at the 18:28 mark of the final period off an Austin Clyne assist.

Jake Anthony spent the game in goal for the Beavers and had 23 saves on the 24 shots he faced in the game.

Next up for MSU will be a two game stand with Grand Canyon University as the Beavers host the Lopes on Friday, November 1, and Saturday, November 2, at Maysa Arena.

MSU 6, University of Mary 1

MANDAN – The Minot State Beavers men’s hockey team were on the road Saturday night, October 26, taking on the University of Mary Marauders. The Beavers scored 6 goals and held UMary to only 1 goal to come away with the win by a score of 6-1.

The Beavers got the scoring started early with a goal from Christian Kadolph only 33 seconds into the game to make it 1-0 Beavers. The Marauders answered back with a short handed goal from Joe Gronholz at 14:34 into the first period to knot the game up at 1-1 at that point.

With one second left in the first period, Joey Moffatt would find the back of the net to make it 2-1 Beavers to end the first period.

The Beavers got off to a fast start once again in the second period with a goal scored by

Colby Joseph only 48 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Beavers. Reid Arnold then joined the party scoring a goal at 6:59 into the second period to further the Beavers lead 4-1 at that point.

The Beavers continued their goal barrage in the third period with Moffatt’s second goal of the game at 5:49 into the third period, and with Arnold’s second goal of the game at 18:21 into the third period to secure the win by a final score of 6-1.

After the Marauders tied the game at 1-1 in the first period, the Beavers went on to score 5 unanswered goals to win the game.

Colby Joseph, Walker Jerome, Jay Buchholz, Logan Rands, Josh Pederson and Matt Egan were all credited with assists in the game. MSU goalie Will Dyke had 19 saves in the game on 20 shots on goal to secure the victory.
