Honeybees split doubleheader at Madison
MADISON, Wis. – Minot (6-24) moved forward in their road trip with a stop for a doubleheader in Madison (22-13) against the Night Mares on Friday, July 26, and finished the stop 1-1 from the two games. The Honeybees continue the journey with a doubleheader on Saturday against hosting La Crosse Steam.
Honeybees 5, Madison Night Mares 4
The game was very evenly played from start to finish with each team having four hits in the game. Minot had one home run by Sydney Farmer that was part of the difference. The seventh inning perseverance by the Honeybees to work a run in was the other.
Minot scored single runs at the top of the second, fifth and scored two runs at the top of the fourth. Madison scored single runs at the bottom of the first and fourth innings with two runs at the bottom of the sixth inning. Tied at 4-4 going into the last inning of play, the Honeybees scored one run and held the Night Mares scoreless for the win.
Minot was 4-for-25 with one error as a team. Dominique Baker, Trinity Gregg and Sydney Farmer were each 1-for-3 batting with an RBI each in the win. Farmers hit was the games only home run by either team. The fourth hit was by Shayna Myshrall who also scored.
Payton Whitehead pitched five innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked four batters and had one strikeout. Jackie Albrecht pitched two innings and allowed two runs on one hit, walked two batters and recorded three strikeouts in relief.
Madison was 4-for-26 batting with four errors as a team. Addie Blomberg, Chloe Wamboldt, Lexie Shaver and Danielle Lucey each had a hit at the plate. Kendall Weik pitched six innings and allowed four runs- three earned- and four hits. She walked four batters, tallied three strikeouts and allowed one home run. Andrea Jaskowiak pitched the last inning and allowed one run in relief.
Madison Night Mares 12, Honeybees 7
Hot off a win, Minot jumped out to a three run lead at the top of the first inning. Madison scored two at the bottom of the same inning and added five more at the bottom of the second inning for a 7-3 lead. Madison added five more runs at the bottom of the fourth inning for the 12-3 lead. Minot would narrow the gap with two runs at the top of the fifth and two at the top of the sixth inning.
Minot was 8-for-29 at the plate with four errors as a team. Farmer was 2-for-4 batting with two RBIs while Abbie Stigler, Josie Buhr, Jasmine Blizzard joined Myshrall and Baker with runs. Farmer added a home run and was joined by Albrecht and Myshrall.
Kierra Fournier pitched one and two-third innings and allowed seven runs- four earned- on three hits. She walked four batters as well. Jenna Boos pitched two and one-third innings and allowed five runs- four earned- on four hits. Jasmine Blizzard pitched two innings and allowed three hits in relief.
Madison was 10-for-30 batting with an error as a team. Tia Durst and Hilary Blomberg were each 2-for-3 at the plate with five RBIs between the two. Holly Lowenberg pitched six innings and allowed seven runs- six earned- on eight hits. She walked two batters, tallied three strikeouts and allowed all three home runs. Karlie McKenzie pitched one inning in relief.
