‘Bees bats come to life against Night Mares

Madison Night Mares played the Minot Honeybees for a second day at Corbett Field, Wednesday, June 26, and traded runs and leads right down to the last inning of play.

Madison put a run on the scoreboard at the top of the first inning of play on a sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead. Madison would add another run at the top of the third inning of play for the 2-0 lead.

Minot got into the action at the bottom of the third inning. With two out, Trinity Gregg was walked and Cairah Curran singled to left. Skyler Dietz then singled to right to score Gregg. With Madison leading 2-1, Minot evened the game at the bottom of the fourth inning when Sydney Farmer doubled to center and, with two outs, Ariana Diaz doubled to right to score Farmer.

The Night Mares would add two runs at the top of the fifth inning for a 4-2 lead. The Honeybees would score one run at the bottom of the same inning when Gregg would double to left and Curran would single to score Gregg.

Madison would hold the 4-3 lead until the bottom of the seventh when Curran singled and then advanced from 1st to 3rd with situationally aware baserunning. Skyler Dietz hit a sacrifice fly to score Curran and even the game at 4-4 going into extra innings.

The Night Mares would add a run at the top of the eighth inning and needed only acquire three outs over the Honeybees to take the 5-4 win.

At the bottom of the eighth, with one out, Jackie Albrecht and Shannon Nelson on base- Victoria Flores would be in the batters box as Albrecht had an unearned run for the walkoff 6-5 win.

Minot was 9-for-30 at the plate with two errors as a team. Curran was 3-for-4 batting with one RBI and scored one run. Farmer was 2-for-4 at the plate while Dietz, Arianna Diaz, Flores and Gregg each had hits in the win. Kierra Fournier pitched five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits in the game. Albrecht pitched three innings and allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts in relief.

Madison was 9-for-31 batting with three errors as a team. Carly Oliver was 3-for-4 at the plate while Hilary Blomberg was a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the game. Lecie Shaver was 2-for-4 batting with an RBI as well. Kendall Weik pitched five innings and allowed three runs on three hits. Brooke Steinhorst pitched one inning and allowed one run on no hits. Holly Lowenberg pitched one and one-third innings and allowed two runs on no hits but walked two batters.

Minot will host the Mankato Habaneros on Monday, July 1, at Corbett Field.

Madison Night Mares 12, Honeybees 1

Thunderstorms led to delays in the game with a first pitch time of 8:35 p.m. but the damage was done at the top of the first inning of play when Madison scored 11 runs prior to the delay. Minot would answer with one run at the bottom of the same inning as the Night Mares claimed the second game on Tuesday, June 25, at Corbett Field.

Minot was 4-for-20 at the plate with three errors as a team. Sydney Farmer was a perfect 3-for-3 batting while Shannon Nelson added the fourth hit and scored the only run. Payton Whitehead pitched one-third inning and allowed five runs, four earned, on four hits. Jasmine Blizzard pitched four and two-third innings and allowed seven runs, four earned, on seven hits in relief.

Madison was 11-for-27 batting with one error as a team. Addie Blomberg was 3-for-3 at the plate while Rylee Rogers was 2-for-2 and Brooke Steinhorst was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Four other batters had hits in the win. Andrea Jaskowiak pitched three innings and allowed one run on three hits. Holly Lowenberg pitched two innings and allowed no runs on one hit in relief.
