Minot finds the magic against Legacy

Adam Papin/MDN Lucas Beeter (12) and Michael George (13) lead the Minot Magicians on the field during their home opener on Friday night.
If there were any doubt about whether Minot would snap their three-game losing streak to Bismarck Legacy, it was erased 59 seconds into the game when Tyson Ruzicka ran 48 yards down the sideline for a touchdown. The Magicians scored 49 first-half points, as they cruised to an easy win in their home opener.
After shutting out Bismarck St. Mary’s last week, the Magicians have yet to allow a point this season, and they will look to extend that next Friday when the Magi welcome Mandan to Duane Carlson Stadium.
Griffin Broderick added his first touchdown for Minot before Ruzicka scored his second of the game on a four-yard run to make it 21-0 after the first quarter.
Minot took advantage of strong field position as they seldom started drives in their own territory. They capitalized on it too.
Just eight seconds into the second quarter, Lucas Beeter connected with Logan Conklin in the end zone from 13 yards out to make it a four-touchdown difference. A Talen Jundt interception 16 seconds later set up another Conklin touchdown reception from Beeter, making it 35-0.
Kellan Burke added a touchdown of his own with a 5-yard run. Burke has been perfect so far this season on extra points, and tonight he made all seven of his attempts.
Broderick closed out the scoring with a 51-yard run to make it 49-0.
The entire second half was played with a running clock without either team putting points on the board.
Minot, ranked No. 5 in the state, moves to 2-0 on the year, and they will take on the Mandan Braves next week, with kickoff at 8 p.m.
