Class B state tourney nets opening-day magic

James Jackson/MDN No. 1-seed Thompson guard Addison Sage (4) poured in 12 points in the first half on the way to finish with a game-high 20 points in the Tommies’ 66-43 win over Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier in Thursday’s state quarterfinal matchup.

Opening the first day of the 2023 NDHSAA Class B Girls Basketball State Tournament with a bang, the best teams from regions around the state collided as Thompson, Central Cass, Rugby, Kenmare/Bowbells, Garrison, Bowman County, Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich, and Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier descended upon the Minot State University Dome on Thursday for quarterfinal action.

Along with wins by No. 3-seed Rugby and No. 5-seed Garrison, Central Cass (21-3) used a 15-0 run to start the game to eventually claim a 61-28 victory over Bowman County (23-3), while No. 1-seed Thompson (23-2) turned a strong second quarter of offense into the groundwork for a 66-43 victory over Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier (19-5).
