Sabre Dogs to face Trappers in Expedition League Championship

Unexpected circumstances have been common for the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs over the last few weeks, who first dealt with a significant schedule change that resulted in the team having only five home games left on the schedule before the Expedition League playoffs began.

The root of the schedule change was a result of the Red River Pilots coach sending in his resignation and letting the players go as well. Now, the Sabre Dogs have announced that they will face the Pierre Trappers in the 2022 Expedition League Championship set to take place from July 7-11.

Additional details on the series have yet to be announced but will follow as it gets closer to those dates. With the Sabre Dogs in the championship round, it gives the team an opportunity to win back-to-back Expedition League titles in their last season.

Entering championship play, the Sabre Dogs own a 30-1 record and are riding a 25-game winning streak. The team, however, has not played since June 28. The Sabre Dogs haven’t been completely idle since then, as they held an intrasquad scrimmage on July 2 to try and keep the players fresh.

The Sabre Dogs have matched up against the Pierre Trappers nine times this season, with the Sabre Dogs winning all the contests. In those nine games, the Sabre Dogs put up double digit runs in seven of them, and even more impressively, two of those games were 20+ run nights for the Sabre Dogs.

In their nine games, the Sabre Dogs have outscored the Trappers 124-9, resulting in a positive run differential of +115. The balanced play of the Sabre Dogs vs. the Trappers has amounted to the Sabre Dogs averaging just under 14 runs per game and allowing only one run per game in those matchups.

Despite all the inconsistencies with the schedule this year, the one thing that has been consistent is how well the Sabre Dogs have played. With the team scheduled to play in the championship, they will have the opportunity to try to accomplish what they came together for and that’s to bring another Expedition League title to the Magic City.

The championship series will be a best of five scenario when it takes place. Additional details will be announced as they are known.

Starting at $2.99/week.
