Class A, B basketball tourneys to start this weekend

After much sweat, heroics, and dedication throughout the local basketball season, the Class A and Class B boys and girls state playoffs will begin Thursday and go until Saturday.

Class A, West Regional Tournament

No. 1 seed Minot High boys will take on No. 8 seed Jamestown High on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Bismarck Event Center. Jamestown previously took a game off Minot on Feb. 10, winning 65-53 at Jerry Meyer Arena. Minot then defeated Jamestown on Feb. 12 in a mirroring score of 65-53 on its home turf.

No. 2 seed Minot High girls will play No. 10 seed Turtle Mountain Community High on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., also at the Bismarck Event Center. Minot won both matches with Turtle Mountain during the regular season, winning the first one on Jan. 11 by a score of 82- 50, and the second meeting on Feb. 3, winning 97-62.

Class B, Girls State

For Region 6, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood will play Langdon/Edmore/Munich on Thursday at the Betty Engelstad Arena on the University of North Dakota campus in Grand Forks at 2:45 p.m. MLS won the Region 6 Girls Basketball Tournament 42-26 against Bishop Ryan.

Class B, Boys Region 6 Boys Basketball Tournament

The Class B tournament for Region 6 Boys’ Basketball will begin on Monday, culminating in the finals and 3rd place match on March 10 at Minot State Dome.

The match-ups will be: Rugby High versus Our Redeemer’s Christian School at 3 p.m., Surrey High versus Velva High at 4:30 p.m., Bishop Ryan versus Towner/Granville/Upham at 6 p.m., and Bottineau High versus MLS at 7:30 p.m.

The bracket for the Class B Boys Basketball State Tournament is to be determined and will start March 17 at the Minot State Dome.
