Blessed to work for Minot Public School

After 22 years in the Minot School District, it’s time to retire!

I have been blessed to work for Minot Public Schools since 2002 as an Assistant Principal and Principal at Magic City Campus and Superintendent of Schools for both districts since 2011. My years at Magic City Campus were very special to me and I cherish the relationships I was able to build with students – many of whom are now parents in our district, and some who are now employees of the district.

My time as superintendent has been a whirlwind of excitement and challenge. I appreciate working with so many dedicated professionals who put the needs of our children first – especially during the Souris River Flood of 2011 and subsequent recovery, years of overcrowding, the excitement of passing two bond issues, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Your efforts exemplify our adage, “together we get better.”

To the employees of Minot Public and Minot Air Force Base Schools, I say thank you for allowing me to serve as your superintendent. I appreciate your ongoing dedication to the students we are blessed to serve. Each and every employee plays a crucial role in our success, and I offer my most sincere appreciation for all you do.

To the parents of Minot Public and Minot Air Force Base Schools, I say thank you for trusting our district to educate your children, and for supporting your children in academics and extracurricular activities. I appreciate your dedication and support over these many years.

To the students of Minot Public and Minot Air Force Base Schools, I say thank you for being the center of our school family and for being the focus of our collective work. I know that Minot Public Schools has provided and will continue to provide a quality education that will prepare you for life beyond high school graduation. I wish you much success in your future endeavors. Minot kids are the best!

To the Minot and Minot Air Force Base community, I say thank you for your continued support of our schools, our children, and of me over the past two decades. This support is what brings the Magic to our Magic City. Hands down, nobody does it better than Minot!

To our elected officials at the federal, state and local level, I say thank you for always being willing to listen and to find innovative and creative ways to meet the needs of education in our community during good times and bad. This support was so evident as we recovered from the devastating effects of the Souris River Flood of 2011. North Dakotans support what is important and do the right thing, even when nobody is watching. Thank you for doing the right thing, for supporting our schools through funding formulas, policy decisions, and especially, for creating an educational environment that puts the needs of our students first.

To the MPS and MAFB school boards – past and present, thank you for supporting our mission and vision – a dream that will cumulate as we transition to a two, 9-12 comprehensive high school system, a three, in-town middle school system, and a balanced elementary system with room for growth. We are providing more opportunities for our students to find success.

There is much yet to do, but I am confident you will focus on the needs of students, listen to the voices of all, and most importantly, implement policies and procedures to support all students at all levels. Our kids deserve it!

Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
