Senators put party over country

Bob McNamara, Upham

This week gave us two more examples of our Senate delegation not taking their role of advice and consent seriously. Mr. DeJoy was a terribly controversial nominee for postmaster general and our delegation knew of the controversy. Yet they bobbled along with the party line and voted to confirm him. Five years into his ten year term and he has resigned with the post office in far worse shape than when he went in. I wonder how your ND postal service has been? Not good thanks to this confirmation.

Mr. Hegseth was another terribly controversial nominee. I wrote to our delegation asking for one qualification of this man and they responded with nothing. I watched Sen. Cramer question him during his confirmation hearing and the senator did nothing but babble about how much he admired him as a man of faith. Not one question about his qualification.

Of course, our delegation bobbled along with the party line and confirmed him. This week was a perfect example of why Mr. Hegseth was not qualified and should not be leading the DoD. With 26 years in the military I guarantee that this was classified information he sent over a group chat. I know he didn’t invite that reporter onto that chat and bears no responsibility for it. He did, however, use an unauthorized method to transmit classified information and he failed to check or know who he was sending it to.

Two of many instances where the delegation knew the nominees were not qualified yet they put party over country. That is our delegation and I, unfortunately, voted for them at one time thinking they were above putting party over country.
