Legislators overstep bounds, waste time

Kara Vetter

Minot

Since the beginning of the current ND legislative session, there has been no shortage of ridiculous topics and wasted time. After the last couple of days, however, I think it’s safe to say it has completely devolved into nonsense.

It is obvious that for many legislators, their top (maybe only) priority is limiting the rights of certain citizens. The fact that it is being done under the guise of religion is a complete embarrassment to me as a Christian. Perhaps if our legislators want to show off their values, their time and energy would be better spent volunteering at a soup kitchen, homeless shelter, school, etc.

It has often been our own Minot representatives putting forth the bills and resolutions forcing their personal beliefs on the rest of us, instead of working toward the common good.

I am hoping to get the chance to support other candidates in the next election. I belong to neither political party, and would be glad to support any candidate who possesses common sense and decency.

I think the majority of North Dakotans are not interested in having their government legislate their personal beliefs onto the rest of us. We need to work harder to make sure our current representatives know this isn’t acceptable — and if they don’t listen, vote them out as soon as possible.

Starting at $2.99/week.
