Pleased to see study input on Highway 52

Duane Brekke, Minot

I was elated to see the Oct. 22 The Minot Daily News front page headline.

Last legislative session, Sen. Karen Krebsbach and Gov. Burgum had a hearing on Highway 52 (one of the deadliest 22 miles of road in North Dakota). I was asked to be a presenter. My area was the 20+ deaths that I was familiar with. It was emotional.

Sen. Krebsbach, as chair of Senate Appropriations, was able to secure $5 million for the study. (We are going to miss her big time).

Four lanes from Minot to Jamestown is what we need. That portion of the article was excellent. One of the reasons I quit the Legislature is I am not long on patience and or bureaucracies. The next to last paragraph blows me away. A career bureaucrat says we won’t see any construction for four or more years.

This is where we will miss Sen. Krebsbach. She would politely sit down with the head of the highway department and look him in the eye and explain we need it NOW. Did you hear me? We need it NOW. This stretch of 22 miles is one of the deadliest in North Dakota. Do you understand that? It’s one of the deadliest.

Starting at $2.99/week.
