Rick Laqua, 62, Minot and longtime Minot hairstylist, died suddenly on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at his home after numerous health related issues during the past year.
Richard Michael Laqua was born on July 7, 1962 in St. Paul, Minn. He was adopted as a baby by Richard W. and Cecilia (Muller) Laqua. He was raised and educated in Crookston, Dickinson, Williston and Minot; the family relocated numerous times over the years as his dad was employed by Montana Dakota Utilities.
He graduated from Minot High School in 1980 and continued his education at the Headquarters/Josef’s School of Hair Design. He was employed and self-employed at various hair salons in Minot and was an instructor at the Headquarters School of Hair Design. He also worked in the floral and hospitality industries in Minot and Florida. In addition, he cared for his parents in their later years.
Rick especially enjoyed time spent at Lake Metigoshe and Rice Lake and had a real soft spot for his rescue dogs, Jojo, Tiger, Mellow, and Maxwell, and of course Karma, his cat.
Survivors include his sister: Denise Tonner of Vero Beach Fla.; niece: Libby Tonner of St. Charles, Ill.; nephew: Jack Tonner of Charlotte, N.C.; aunts and uncles: Barbara Olson, Bev and Gene Gunderson and Laurence and Vi Muller; special cousin: Julie Slater and her daughter Brittney Eckart, and many cousins.
He will be dearly missed by family, friends and by the many many clients he cared for over the years.
Celebration of the Life of Rick Laqua: Monday, April 28, 2025 from 5 to 7 p. m. with a sharing of memories at 6 p.m. in the Vardon Golf Club Clubroom.
Memorials are preferred to Souris Valley Animal Shelter.
