David Jacobson

Dec. 16, 1944-April 21, 2025

Minot

David Allen Jacobson, 80, Minot, died at his home Monday, April 21, 2025 surrounded by his family and under the care of hospice.

David was born December 16, 1944 in Minot, ND to Joseph and Joette (Hartgrove) Jacobson, and was raised on the family farm in the South Prairie area just north of Rice Lake. He attended rural school graduating from Douglas in 1962.

He soon traveled south with the Abrahamson brothers doing custom combining, then later landed work with Byron Larson Construction out of Ryder, ND. During this time he laid eyes on the love of his life, Linda Larson, who he married August 28, 1969 in Douglas. Soon after marriage, they moved to Denver Colo., where he became an apprentice in drywall finishing.

In Denver, they had two sons Nathan and Colin. The family moved back to North Dakota in 1974 where David worked alongside his father on the family farm until Joe’s passing early 1978, which was just a few weeks after their third child, Kara, was born.

Though busy farming he also worked his drywall trade, taking more work during the off-season. This continued for a couple years and in 1980 he took the Civil Service test and began his 25 year career as a Rural Letter Carrier.

He maintained all three jobs until 1997 when David and Linda moved off the family farm to a house in Minot making a home for his in-laws, Arnold and Elizabeth Larson for the remainder of their lives. David would retire from the post office in 2005 and focused on work he loved by starting his drywall business. He continued working as an artist in his trade up to the month before his passing.

David had many hobbies and interests. He began a long affair playing league pool in the early 80s and played his final league match in March 2025. He was an avid reader of many books but spent many hours thumbing through cookbooks in search of his next baking inspiration, with his cat CeeLo perched on his lap.

From his many (and some failed) cooking endeavors he baked several loaves of bread and wonderful pies which he often shared with various friends and family. He enjoyed gardening, canning, following the Minnesota Twins, sporadic fishing outings, and “going for a drive” that usually found a casino on a random afternoon.

Many called him Jake – recognized by his signature beard only look. Always a kind human. He really just liked people and never lacked conversation, smiles and a twinkle in his eyes when he saw friends, family, and acquaintances. Known to be modest and humble, Dave’s positive energy, true-blue nature and natural talents will be greatly missed by the many lives who crossed his path.

David is survived by his loving wife of 55 1/2 years Linda, son Colin and daughter Kara all of Minot, sister Marvel Bakken, Garrison, brothers-in-law Byron (Donna) Larson, Ryder, Ronald (Karen) Larson, Garrison, sisters-in-law Joan (John) Christensen, Las Vegas, Sylvia Thompson, Wimberley TX, and Nancy Larson, Alb., NM and many nieces and nephews that brought him so much joy.

David was preceded in death by his parents, son Nathan, brothers Lane and Roger, sister Mary Abrahamson, in-laws, Elizabeth and Arnold Larson, brothers-in-law, Eugene (Judy) Richard (Sandra) and Micheal Larson and Pat Thompson, and sister-in-law Eileen (Donald) Ehlert.
