Adeline Newnam, 86, Minot, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at a Minot hospice care facility.
Adeline Eunice was born August 2, 1938, in Maryland Township of Ward County, to Henry and Eunice (Lund) Hamilton. She was raised in McKinley Township, near Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1955.
Adeline was united in marriage to Donavon Newnam on November 2, 1958, at the Church of God in Minot. They lived in town until 1969, when they moved to rural Minot, where they raised their six children.
As a young woman, Adeline worked as a bookkeeper. As her family grew, she wanted to be home with her children, but she missed the challenge of working with numbers. She began working from home as a bookkeeper for Hamilton Brothers Construction, which was owned by her brothers.
In 1983 she and Donavon started a family business, Don’s Body Shop. She did their bookkeeping until they retired in 2001, when they moved back into Minot.
In recent decades, Adeline was a faithful member of The Lighthouse Church and served many years as their bookkeeper.
Adeline enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, anyone who visited was welcome at her home. She was also passionate about her writing ministry. She spent many hours writing letters of encouragement to family and friends. She also filled many journals over the years, writing about her adventures in life and her faith.
She will be remembered for her lifelong relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her unwavering trust in her Heavenly Father’s care and comfort throughout all of life. She wrote in a journal entry at age 70 (2008), “No one knows how our journey on this side of heaven will end… But I believe our journey will continue throughout eternity where there will be ‘joy forevermore.’ Indeed, a happy thought!”
Adeline’s loving family includes her children, Calvin Newnam, Minot, ND; Bonnie (Mark) Peters, Cassadaga, NY; Byron (her favorite daughter-in-law Michaela) Newnam, Minot, ND; Nancy (Fred) Seroski, Billings, MT; and Jack Newnam, Fostoria, OH; grandchildren Holly Peters; Wyatt and Westley Newnam; Angelina, Hailie, Grace Adeline, and Caleb Mekus; great-grandson Noah Donavon Strusa; brother Garold (LuAnn) Hamilton; and sister-in-law Audrey Cordner, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
