Todd Asendorf, 66, Minot, ND, passed away Monday, February 3, 2025, in his home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He chose to face that battle with an attitude of joy and gratitude.
Todd Albert Asendorf was born October 31, 1958, to Calvin and Evelyn (Anderson) Asendorf in Grand Forks, ND. He was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Bishop Ryan High School in 1976. Following graduation, he worked at Chateau Lanes Bowling Alley, Border States Electric, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and FedEx. He ended his career with almost 25 years at SRT Communications.
Todd married the love of his life, Kristi Dahly, on June 14, 1980. Together, they built a strong marriage, a welcoming home, and a loving family. They welcomed their son, Tyler, in 1985 and daughter, Kayla, in 1988. He was an amazing, loving, and involved dad. The whole family spent time together fishing, camping, playing games/cards, hosting family events, and opening their home to their kids’ friends. Todd enjoyed the outdoors. He could hunt or fish for hours and even if he didn’t catch anything, he always said he had a great day.
He spoke fondly of his childhood growing up near Roosevelt School playing with the neighborhood kids. They had such freedom and were able to spend hours being creative.
Todd and Kristi took the vow of “the two shall become one” to heart. They described themselves as ketchup and mustard, salt and pepper. Kristi even made matching ketchup/mustard Halloween costumes for them. Their souls will forever be interwoven.
He could find joy in almost anything (except other drivers on the road). Todd had a genuine interest in others, a welcoming attitude, and a kind smile. He had a calm, confident and consistent way that was contagious.
During his illness, so many people called, visited, and texted us to make sure Todd got to hear the positive impact he had on their lives.
Todd was an amazing PaPa. His grandkids even made him a member of their kids club because he was an engaging playmate, always ready for an adventure. He spent much more time on the floor than on the furniture.
Faith was a central part of their family’s life, and it was evident by his involvement at Zion Lutheran Church. Over many years, he was an usher, Sunday School teacher, confirmation guide, mentor, small group host, event organizer, council member, call committee member, and much more. He was always willing and eager to help. He modeled confidence for people to do what they didn’t think they could.
We are all such better people, more kind, gentle, and generous because of him. Well done, good and faithful servant.
Todd is survived by his loving wife of 44 years; his son, Tyler (Erin) Asendorf, and their children, Eloise, Jonah, and Benjamin; his daughter, Kayla (Devin) Cole, and their children,
Norah and Ezra; his brothers, Garth Asendorf and Dana (Erica) Asendorf; his sister, Dawn (Dennis) Fry; and several nieces and nephews.
