Jonathan Huwe, 31, South Houston, Texas and formerly of Minot, North Dakota died on September 11, 2024 in Houston, Texas.

Jonathan David Huwe was born on February 16, 1993 in Shelby, NC to Gary and Anita (Nolte) Huwe. Growing up, Jonathan spent time in North Carolina, North Dakota and Texas. He graduated from Minot High School in 2011.

Upon graduating, Jonathan enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard as a Blackhawk Helicopter Crew Member. In 2012, Jonathan transferred to the Texas Army National Guard, switching his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) to Infantry Rifleman.

In addition to various NCO Professional Development Courses, Jonathan completed the U.S. Army Air Assault and Pathfinder courses which entitled him to wear on his uniform Air Assault Wings and the Pathfinder Torch. In 2020, Jonathan participated in the Texas Army National Guard’s Best Warrior Competition (NCO Division) where he finished runner-up.

Jonathan reached the rank of Staff Sergeant before leaving the National Guard to become a full-time student pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While attending Houston Community College UT Tyler Campus for Mechanical Engineering, Jonathan was on the Dean’s List.

While in the 36th Infantry Division (the Arrowhead Division), Jonathan deployed overseas to the Sinai Peninsula and the Horn of Africa in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Back here in the states, he participated in Operation Lone Star, helping Border Patrol Agents in securing Texas’ southern border.

SSG Huwe’s awards and decorations include the Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal, The Texas Medal of Merit, Army Helicopter Crewman’s Wings, Air Assault Wings, The Pathfinder Torch and the Infantry Shoulder Cord.

Jonathan came to know Christ as his Savior while attending Bethany Christian School in Brevard, NC. He reaffirmed his faith in Christ in 2008, when he presented himself as a candidate for believer’s baptism while attending Immanuel Baptist Church of Minot, ND. In one of his texts to his father, Jonathan included this Bible verse from John 16:33. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Jonathan loved family. He was fiercely protective of his younger brother James. Jonathan displayed the Christian quality of forgiving those who had wronged him. He also sought to bring about reconciliation between people, especially family members who were estranged from each other.

Jonathan’s loving family includes his father Gary Huwe of Minot, ND; mother: Anita Nolte of Houston, TX; younger brother: James Huwe of Houston, TX; grandparents: David and Barbara Huwe of Minot and Albert and Delia Nolte of Houston along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial Service: Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

A private graveside service was held on October 3, 2024, at the Houston National Cemetery.
