Gary Ray Sorensen of rural Douglas, North Dakota, passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, on Saturday, February 8, 2025. He was 81 years old. His daughter, Christine, and son, Jim, were by his side as he crossed to the other side. Gary was an excellent teacher, lawyer, steward of the land, artist, poet, friend, brother, grandfather, and father. He had a knack for making everyone feel welcome at the card table, on the golf course, and around the campfire under the stars. His greatest passion was the Sorensen farm in McLean County, a paradise on the prairie where he hosted many a celebratory gathering and triumphant hunting party. He will be missed by the multitude whose lives he touched, never forgotten and always loved. Gary is survived by his daughter Christine Sorensen (Jeff Pester) son James Sorensen (Jennifer Woodward-Sorensen), his brothers Raleigh Sorensen (Ellen Hoff), Tom Sorensen (Diane), and John Sorensen (Glenda), and his grandchildren Ted, Jon, Kenny, and Maggie Sorensen. He was preceded in death by his parents Soren and Bea Sorensen, and his brother Ronnie. A celebration of life to be held in Garrison, North Dakota, will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pheasants Forever, National Kidney Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
