Esther Laurel Lund, 100, passed away peacefully at St Anthony Park Home in St Paul, MN on January 29, 2025.
Esther was born on September 20, 1924, to Mike and Mary Zaderaka .She was raised on a farm outside of Max, ND and graduated from Max High School in 1942 as the class valedictorian. She graduated from Trinity School of Nursing in Minot, ND as a registered nurse in 1945. During WWII she served in the US Cadet Nurse Corps, which backfilled severely understaffed US hospitals while many nurses served overseas in military facilities. Her nursing career included working in hospitals in St. Louis, Indianapolis and Denver as well as a position as the campus nurse at Linfield College in Oregon.
She married John Lund on September 3, 1956, in Minot. Throughout his teaching and school administration career, the family lived in various communities across North Dakota, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Esther continued her nursing career and touched many lives moving from pediatric to geriatric care over the years.
She is survived by her four daughters: Laura of Tucson, AZ, Louise (Greg) of Grand Junction, CO, Carol (Larry) of Richmond, VA and Candace (Jenny) of Minneapolis, MN as well as sisters Ruth Perman of Waterloo, IA and Evelyn Scovill of Shelby, NC and brother Eugene Zaderaka of Max. She is also survived by three grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Olga and Rose, and brother, Fred.
A memorial will be held in May and burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
