Dela Skipper Swartout, 92, Minot, died Wednesday, February 5, 2025 in a Minot Hospital.
Dela was born September 4, 1932 in Abbeville, Alabama, the daughter of Allen and Rose (Smith) Skipper. She was raised and educated in Abbeville, Alabama and graduated from High School there in 1950.
Dela was united in marriage to Karl Swartout on January 4, 1952 in Camp Rocker, Alabama. They lived in Alabama until 1954, when they moved to Crystal, MN.
In 1964, they moved to Minot, where she became employed with Ellison’s Department Store, working there from 1965 until 1978. She then worked at Target from 1980 until 1987 as a salesperson. She retired in 1987.
After retiring, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren and had worked part time for Jet photo.
Dela and Karl moved to the Surrey area in 1994 and then into Surrey in 2002. She and Karl had attended Bethany Lutheran in Minot. Karl died in 2011.
Dela was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Minot. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading and canning.
Her loving family includes, children, John (Theresia) Swartout, Williston, Robert (Chris) Swartout, Glenburn, Karla (Mark) Raciborski, Minot; 8 grandchildren to include: Shana (Mike) Mitchell, LaRenda (Jeff) Etris, Tommy Warr, Lacey Raper, Heather Johnson, Skyla (Chaise) Philip, Breana Quarne and Donavon Swartout; 7 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dela was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Karl; daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Tom; sisters, Doris & Pat and her brother, Allen.
Private Funeral Service: will take place in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Memorials are preferred to Magic City Youth Baseball.
