Roger Sand, 86, Minot, ND, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, at a Minot assisted living facility.

Roger Paul Sand was born on May 24, 1938 in Bottineau, ND, to Oscar and Marie (Deschamp) Sand. He was raised and educated in the Westhope area, graduating from Westhope High School in 1957. After graduation, Roger continued to live on the family farm and work at various jobs for a time.

He enlisted in the United States Army National Guard on April 21, 1960. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged December 20, 1965.

On May 20, 1961, Roger was united in marriage to Joyce Lucht. From this union came three sons, Mylan, Bill, and Peter. The couple moved to Minot and have been members of Little Flower Catholic Church since 1962, where Roger has been a lay minister, greeter, and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He recently received his 50-year certificate. Roger also worked in maintenance at Minot State for over 27 years and was the owner of Roger’s Small Appliance Repair.

The Boy Scouts were a large part of his life. He volunteered with Troops 425 & 433 for over 30 years and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was proud that his three sons made it to Eagle Scouts. Roger was a former member of the Bottineau National Guard and a lifetime member of Disabled Veterans. He has been a member of AA since 1989. Roger also enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, annual fishing trips to Canada, building birdhouses, spending time with his granddaughters, and traveling with his wife Joyce.

Roger is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, Mylan Sand, Minot, ND, Bill (Linda) Sand, Burlington, ND, and Peter Sand, Moorhead, MN; granddaughters, Elizabeth (Darren) Carter, Fargo, ND, and Sage Sand, Moorhead; a brother, Leslie Sand; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Kristi Sand; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Sand.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, January 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday at 6p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to Little Flower Catholic Church, Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
