Lyle Frost, 91, Minot, ND, died Monday,at a Minot hospital. Lyle Frost was born January 10, 1934, the son of George and Inga (Gjerde) Frost, in Minot, ND. He was raised and educated in Minot, where he attended and graduated from St. Leo’s Catholic School in 1952. Lyle married Shirley Maloney in 1954. They made their home in Minot and were blessed with three children. He enlisted into the Army Reserves Engineers Battalion #468 in 1957, and served until 1963, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of E6 Sergeant First Class. Shortly after he began a long career working for Westlie Motor Company. In 1962, one of the highlights of his career was representing Westlie’s at a seminar on, “How to Manage a Successful Parts and Service Department” at the National Ford-Mercury-Lincoln Dealership Convention in New Orleans, LA, a three-day seminar in the famous SuperDome. In 1973 and 1974, Lyle served on the National Parts Managers Advisory Committee for the National Parts Dealers Council in the state of Michigan along with the National Parts Advisory Council in Washing, D.C. in 1974. In 1975, he received the Outstanding Gold Medallion Parts Management Award from the Ford Parts and Service Division of Ford Motor Co. In 1990, he qualified for the Director of Parts and Service for the Board of Excellence Award. He joined the Minot Knights of Columbus Council #9906 in 1952. He was a 71-year member and 3rd Degree. In 1960, he joined the Fraternal of Eagles Aerie #2376. He served as Aerie President from 1967-1968 and he also served on the Board of Trustees. He received the Eagle of the Year Award in 1980. In 1990, Lyle and Shirley received the Mr. & Mrs. Award. In 1972, the Minot Ritual Team won North Central Regional Ritual Competition in Boston, winning National B-2 Champions, while he was serving as Ritual Advisor. Lyle received 5 All State Awards. He joined the Minot Lions Club in October 1968, where he served as President from 1989 – 1990. In 1989, he received the Melvin Joins Fellow Humanitarian Award for distinguished unselfish service. He served on the West River Sewer and Water Board from 1974 – 1992. In 1974, he was presented with the 91st Combat Support Group Minot Air Force Base Certificate of Appreciation Award. In 1991, Lyle retired at 40 years at Westlie Motor Co. After retirement, Lyle and Shirley traveled to all the provinces of Canada, all of the USA, and most of Mexico. Being on a Bowling Team and playing summer Golf (hole in one in 2018) kept him busy. In 2003, he flew as an observer for the Civil Air Patrol, retiring with the rank of Lt. Col. He also has been the caretaker for many years of the Ten Commandments Statue located in Roosevelt Park. His loving family includes: wife 70 years, Shirley; children, Rebecca (Steve Altringer) Armstrong, Michele (Dave) Gaydos, and Dale (Janet) Frost; grandchildren, Darice (Erik) Burdick, Jesse (Mariah) Armstrong, Cody (Alicia) Armstrong, Tyler (Jenny) Bohl, Justin (Anastasia) Bohl, and Hannah Gaydos; great-grandchildren, Zachary (Katie), Cassidy (Matthew), Patience, Madison, Holden, Jayden, Cashden, Easton, Ashton, Braelon, Braxton, Rhiannon, Clayton, Lawson, Lucia Bohl, Azariah “Ozzy”; great-grandchild, Levi; brother, Virgil (Helen) Frost, Douglas Frost; sister, Luella (Nick) Wood; and nieces, nephews and cousins He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Jane Frost; Visitation: Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Vigil Prayer Service: Friday at 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. A private family service will take place.
