Lieutenant Matt McLeod, 49, Minot, ND, died Tuesday, in Minot.

Matthew Thomas McLeod was born May 18, 1975, the son of Richard and Dian (Hames) McLeod, in Crookston, MN. He was raised and educated in Frazee, MN and Barnesville, MN before moving to Valley City, ND where he graduated high school.Following high school Matt attended Bismarck State College and Minot State University. He then worked for the North Dakota State Penitentiary from 1997 to 1999 and the Grand Forks Police Department from 1999 to 2002. Matt then moved to Minot and began working with the Minot Police Department in 2002, where he worked for 23 years. While with the MPD, Matt was the SWAT Team Commander. He married Kristin Plessas on June 25, 2004. They made their home in Minot and were blessed with three children, Kaden, Lexi, and Bailey. Matt’s children were his world. He was incredibly proud of all their accomplishments. He enjoyed being a gym dad at Rebel Athletics. He liked playing hockey and organized the Guns and Hoses Hockey Fundraiser. He also loved to travel. His loving family includes: wife of 20 years, Kristin; children, Kaden, Alexis, and Bailey; mother, Dian McLeod; brother, Scott (Roni) McLeod; sisters, Barb (Christy) McLeod, Joan (Steve) Carvell; aunt, Jeannie McLeod; mother-in-law, Karen Plessas; father-in-law, Donald Plessas Jr.; brothers-in-law, D. James (Maelyn) Plessas, Dale (Jackie) Plessas, David Plessas; sister-in-law, Kirby Plessas; nieces and nephews, Tom Carvell, Rebecca Reynolds, Kaitlyn Plessas, Kennedy Plessas, Emily Plessas; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; mother-in-law, Janice Plessas; grandparents, Venette and Horace McLeod.Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. Inurnment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND. Inurnment will take place in the Spring. Visitation: Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. Vigil Prayer Service: Monday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Matt’s children’s educational funds.
