Jan. 20, 1939 – Jan. 19, 2025

Lansford

Janice Leora (Undlin) Talley, 85, Lansford, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025, at her home, one day before her 86th birthday. She was born on Jan. 20, 1939, in Minot, to Joey and Esther (Blowers) Undlin. She was raised on a farm in Renville County. The Undlin’s raised wheat, oats, barley, and corn. They milked cows, raised beef cattle, pigs, and sheep. She helped with chores on the farm. Janice attended Lansford Public School and played Girls Basketball. She was always a defensive player all her years so never scored any points. Her team took 5th place in the state tournament in 1955. She told her children that she was the only one to make it to the State Tournament. She graduated from Lansford High School in 1957, where the class of ’57 had their dreams. Janice stayed in close contact with her classmates and cared about them a great deal. She attended two years at NDSU where her father went to college. Janice married Curtis Allan Talley on July 12, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansford. To this union three children were born: Brent, Geneil and Gwen. Curt and Janice were married for 62 years. Curt passed away on Nov. 30, 2021. Janice was a stay-at-home mother while raising her children. She enjoyed and attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s events. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church her whole life and was very involved with her church. She taught Sunday School, served on the church council and was a Luther League Advisor. She also attended Bible studies along with her friends who were her friends for decades. Janice was also involved with the Girl Scouts and belonged to that organization for many years. She also belonged to the Order of Eastern Star. She loved being around all her friends and family during these meetings. She also bowled with the same team for many years. Janice did work various jobs during her life. She ran the Lansford apartments for many years, worked at the Lansford grocery store and the Lansford bowling alley. After her children had all graduated from high school, she worked at So-Fro fabrics at Dakota Square Mall. Janice’s passion were her children and grandchildren but a close second was sewing, picking out fabric, crafts, and quilting. Who can ever forget decorating cowboy hat rims with pheasant feathers. She loved her fabric and her sewing machines and produced beautiful pieces of art with her talent. She produced many many items over the years and all of her grandchildren received a quilt made with love from her on their graduation. She made Christmas tree skirts for her loved ones when they got married. She was a very gifted sewer and joined the Quilt Guild and Red Thimble in Minot and loved the women that she met at these organizations. She was the featured quilter one year with the Quilt Guild. She also made quilts for Lake Metigoshe Ministries so they could auction them off. All of her products were made with love. Curtis and Janice had six God Children, Julie Undlin Beitscher, Roy Leavitt, Suzie Lielke Melin, Candy Bengtson-Twite, Stuart Larson and Stephanie Talley Bennis. Janice had a little girl who lived across the street from her; her name is Lilly, and she would come over and visit and have treats. She was at Janice’s house about a week ago and Janice would take her projects to local fairs. She had a Blue Ribbon on one of her pillows and Lilly gave her a Big Hug and said, “You’re a Real Champion, Janice.” Yes Lilly, Janice was a Real Champion.
