Minot

Elizabeth “Betty” Cameron, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 8, 2025. Born April 14, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the third daughter of Albert and Anna Meyer.

After graduating in 1951 from Haddonfield Memorial High School in Haddonfield, New Jersey, Betty went on to earn her nursing degree from Cooper Hospital School of Nursing in Camden, New Jersey in 1954. During her training, she met surgical intern Dr. A. Malcolm Cameron. They were married on May 2, 1953, in Runnemede, New Jersey.

Betty worked as a registered nurse in pediatrics at Delaware Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, and as a NICU nurse at the Women’s Hospital at the University of Michigan while her husband Malcolm completed his residencies in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.

In 1959, the family of four relocated to Minot, North Dakota, where Malcolm was raised and later established his cardiothoracic surgical practice at the Northwestern Clinic. Two additional children were born following their arrival in Minot. In 1976, Malcolm and Betty’s love for tennis resulted in the building of the Minot Indoor Tennis Club. Following Malcolm’s passing in April 1979, Betty continued to manage the Minot Indoor Tennis Club until its sale.

Betty grew up in Philly. She came to Minot in the 1950s, initially she wondered where in the world Malcolm was taking her. She loved Minot and was proud to call it home for 65 years. She enjoyed taking her four boys to the New Jersey beach where she spent so much time growing up. She made many friends through her involvement with tennis, decades-long memberships in two bridge clubs, and other social organizations. Betty took on leadership roles including past president of the Northwest District Medical Auxiliary as well as PEO Chapter AL/ND Minot. She served as a Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Minot. Fortunately for her and her grandchildren, they enjoyed a lot of time together over the decades. Betty was a world traveler but was always anxious to get back to her home.

She is survived by her four sons and their families: David (Karen) Cameron of Centennial, Colorado, and their daughter, Katherine Cameron MD. Robert (Cristina) Cameron of Los Angeles, California, and their children, Brian Cameron MD, Michael, and Angela. Steven (Kay) Cameron of Fargo, North Dakota, and stepdaughters, Amanda and Kristine Jewell. Paul (Liza) Cameron of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and their children, Lauren, Caroline, and Mark.

Other surviving family members include her sister, Florence Lodonosky of Denver, Pennsylvania; her sisters-in-law, Marilyn Cameron of Roseville, California and Mary Sterling, Greenwich, Connecticut; cousins, and many nieces & nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Anna Meyer; husband, Malcolm; sisters, Ann Brown, Dorothy Alexander; brother, Charles Meyer; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Harmon and Jean Cameron; brother-in-law A. Bruce Cameron; in-laws, Angus L and Genevieve Cameron.

A Celebration of Life for the friends and family of Betty will be held in Minot at a time and location yet to be determined. Interment will be at Rosehill Memorial Cemetery following the celebration.
