The world lost a beautiful soul, Allene Lyla Lamoureux. Born January 09, 1936 in Rugby, North
Dakota and passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years old on November 27, 2024 in Napa, California.
Allene is preceded in death by her husband Vincent, sister Irma Hunskor and parents
Gideon and Frieda Mettler, and survived by her children Candace Meling (Michael), Victoria
Lamoureux, Patricia Gatto (Michael), Joan O’Farrell (Michael), Jonathan Lamoureux (Catherine)
and Janine Lamoureux Campbell (Douglas); her grandchildren Joshua Gatto (Marissa),
Jonathan Meling (Katie), Jessica Binder (Josh), Joy Behring (Brandon), Claire O’Farrell Vilbig
(Craig), Evan O’Farrell, Joshua Smith{step} (Brook), Ruby Campbell and Lucy Campbell; and her great-grandchildren Avery Gatto, Zoey and Ella Meling, Ayden, August, and Adley Binder and Oliver, Charlotte and Milo Behring. Allene is also survived by her siblings; Arthur Mettler
(Carol), Ione Carlson, Marie Alderink (Elroy), Merle Mettler (Esther), Albert Mettler (Katherine),
and Milo Mettler (Mary Ann) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Allene grew up on her family farm in Upham, ND. She attended Upham High School and
Minot State Teachers College. She spent her early years as a teacher in North Dakota. After
marriage to Vincent, they lived in Wahpeton, ND, moved to Hallock, MN and then moved to
California where she spent the rest of her days. After moving to California, she worked at
Hewlett-Packard on the assembly line for a short time. She was an entrepreneur and owned a
cleaning business which helped many ladies start their own businesses, all while raising her
family of six children. She retired after decades of hard work.
Allene had an amazing sense of humor which she passed down to each of her children.
She loved to play Whist, Boggle, Words-with-Friends and Scrabble in which she was titled
Master of the 2-Letter Word and she likes to do puzzles. Allene was well versed in the Bible and would quote over 97 passages by memory. She played the piano with grace and flair. She
was kind, sweet, gentle, caring and filled with gratitude. She loved her children, grand children,
great grandchildren, siblings, nephews, nieces, cousins, Sheila and Ofa her caregivers, and
friends. She is deeply loved by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
Memorial Services to be held at Oaktree Vineyards Clubhouse 2001 Salvador Avenue W Napa,
CA 94558 on February 22, 2025 at 1pm.
Allene is interred with her husband Vincent at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
