Maxine Lane

April 21, 1941-Dec. 11, 2024

Minot

Maxine Vicki Lane, 83, Minot, formerly of the Lignite area, died Wednesday, December 11, 2024 in a Minot hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Maxine was born April 21, 1941 at Powers Lake, North Dakota, the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Scott) Blom. She was raised and educated at Lignite, graduating from Lignite High School in 1959. She attended Northwest Bible College in Minot where she earned an associate’s degree in secretarial work.

Maxine was united in marriage to Larry Lane on June 1, 1962 at Lignite. They made their home in Minot, where in addition to being the mother of three girls she was employed with Northwest Bible College as a secretary to the president from 1961 through 1987. The Bible College became a source of many lifelong friendships. Maxine subsequently worked at Minot State University and later as a receptionist for Ward County Social Services from 1989 until her retirement in 2004.

Maxine loved the Lord and was a longtime member of West Minot Church of God, serving as president of the ladies ministry and teaching Sunday school. She also served as an organist and pianist.

Maxine’s greatest love and joy was family. She was known for her caring heart and for family gatherings in her home. Maxine always made children and grandchildren a priority, attending countless birthday parties, programs, music concerts, recitals, and sporting events from soccer to tennis whether near or far. It was of no consequence whether she understood the rules of the sport being observed as long as she could cheer on her grandchildren.

Maxine enjoyed reading, baking, doing jigsaw puzzles, and traveling. Retirement allowed extra flexibility for travel, and she and Larry took good advantage to frequently travel across the states to visit family and friends, attend national church conferences, and vacation. Maxine never lost her joy in life and always took care to ensure her husband-best-friend was never too far from her side.

Maxine’s loving family includes her husband of 62 years, Larry; daughters Stacy (Brian) Merkel, Minot, Michelle (DeLynn) Weishaar, Minot, Melissa (Cade) Jorgenson, Bismarck; seven grandchildren Dawn Bodtke, Tanner (Kari) Merkel, Garrett, Avery, and Zoe Weishaar, Mykaela and Kyla Jorgenson; three great grandchildren Harleigh, Kaydence, and Berklee; sister Marilyn (Wayne) Brostrom, Bismarck; sister-in-law Marsha Larson, Lignite; and several nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald Blom, sister Elvina Brown, infant sister Elvera, and brother-in-law Gordon Brown.
