Margarete Ann “Peggy” Olson
Aug. 10, 1940-Dec. 9, 2024
Mohall
MOHALL-Margarete Ann “Peggy” Olson, 84, of Mohall, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, at a Bottineau nursing home.
She was born Aug. 10, 1940, to Sanford L. “Red” Ruth (Bartley) Dailey, of Brecksville, Ohio. Her siblings were Patricia Chrisopulos and Larry Dailey. She enjoyed a childhood filled with love and laughter and music. Her mother sewed costumes for The Dailey Trio to sing at events and also on a radio program. She carried this love of music with her throughout her life, later singing with her friend, Luella Engebretson, at many local events. She graduated from Brecksville High School in 1958. After high school, she began work as an administrative assistant, taking the bus to downtown Cleveland to work.
She met Sidney Armond Olson at her sister’s wedding in Oct. of 1958, where they were best man and maid of honor. It was love at first sight and they were married Oct. 3, 1959. Moving to Hamlet township, North Dakota, and living on a farm was a new experience and not without some lonesome times. The transition was made easier with the help and encouragement of friends and caring family living nearby. The young couple spent several winters in the Cleveland area before children were born and became school age.
Peggy was a devoted mother to her three children, Cheryl, Bonnie and Steven. Together, she and Sid built a life of farming and serving others in the Mohall community. Peggy was a member and served many positions in the United Methodist Church, Mrs. Jaycees, Order of Eastern Star, Music Boosters and any community event she could participate in. She loved chocolate, pontoon rides, Elvis music, children and dogs. She was a steadfast friend that cared deeply and enjoyed bridge club, birthday club, homemakers, and every craft there ever was, she even tried belly dancing!
Peg was the perfect partner for her Sid! They enjoyed card playing with friends, family gatherings, and although working long hours to make the farm succeed, found time for fun at Lake Metigoshe, Mouse River Park or the Mohall Vet’s Club. Peggy was a great cook, preparing many wonderful meals for the farm crew and graciously waiting on all visitors to the farm.
After her children were grown, Peggy began working at MTI, a telemarketing company, in Mohall. With her cheerful voice and upbeat disposition, she excelled, but most important to her, she gained many new friends.
Peg had the opportunity to travel and cruise. They traveled to England, and many trips to Washington, D.C., and vacationed with many groups of friends in Mexico, Hawaii, Florida and Arizona, where she and Sid spent a few winters.
In the spring of 2019, Sid and Peg moved to Somerset Assisted Living where they wholeheartedly participated in and enjoyed many activities with a great community of people and staff. After Sid’s death in June of 2023, Peg moved to Maple View Memory Care and later to the Bottineau Good Samaritan, grateful for the people providing care and returning the love.
She will be remembered most for her kindness, cheerful attitude, encouraging messages and infectious giggle. She was always optimistic, complimenting those she met, bringing joy and happiness to those around her.
