Westhope

Daniel Kirk, age 74 of Westhope, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at a Minot hospital. His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Bethel Lutheran Church near Antler.

Daniel Kirk, a son of Elmo and Helen Vera (Talcott) Kirk, was born on March 10, 1950 at the Hegdahl House in Westhope. He was raised in Westhope and graduated from Westhope High School. After graduation, Danny worked for a company in Washington, sending medical equipment to Vietnam. On November 20, 1970, Danny married Vernetta Ann Klokstad at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westhope. Danny worked various oil field jobs and he also farmed. In 1983, he was proud to be able to purchase his first 3 registered black angus and continued to grow his herd and his dream became reality. They raised 4 wonderful children, Traci, Tera, Kelly and Kendall.

Danny loved animals. He was known to check oil wells with a pick-up box full of dogs and several were usually strays.

He is survived by his wife Vernetta; daughters, Traci (Jerrad) Ballantyne and Tera (Brian) Tofteland; sons, Kelly Kirk and Kendall Kirk; grandchildren, Hunter Ballantyne, Lakin (Blaine) Cook, Bailey (Brian) Gutierrez, Chas (Kailey) Tofteland, Kaden Kirk and Brody Kirk; step-grandchildren, Mariana Chavez, Ale Chavez and Tristan Anderson; great-grandchildren, Teagan, Liam and Brooks Gutierrez and Bridger, Crew and Hayes Cook; brother, Dwaine (Debbie) Kirk; sister, Joanne Rice; sister-in-law, Cynthia Kirk and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his step-father, James Roberts; brother, Gail Kirk; brother-in-law, Dale Rice and nephew, Jessie Kirk.
