Mary Lou Bertsch, 83, Minot, ND passed away Friday, November 22, 2024, in her home.

Mary Lou Helgeson was born on July 20, 1941, on the family farm at Lansford, North Dakota to parents Engvald and Anna (Johnson) Helgeson. Mary Lou attended school at Mount Rose, Lansford and Maxbass High School. She graduated from Maxbass High School in 1959. She attended Beautician School in Bismarck, ND and worked as a beautician in Minot, ND.

Mary Lou met the love of her life, Allen “Alley” Bertsch and they were married on June 27, 1963 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot, North Dakota. She was a member of the church for many years and active in the church women’s circle group. Mary Lou and Alley lived in various cities throughout North Dakota (which included Wahpeton, Harvey and Minot).

Mary Lou and Alley enjoyed travelling to Sun City West, Arizona in the wintertime and enjoying golfing with friends from Minot, ND. Besides being a fantastic Mother, Mary Lou enjoyed being with family and friends and entertaining with her famous caramel rolls.

Mary Lou and Alley were parents of three children: Brent, Allycia and Andrea. Mary Lou attended all the school activities and sports for her children and grandchildren (Soccer, Basketball, volleyball).

Mary Lou is survived by: children, Brent Bertsch, Allycia (Patrick) Snell, and Andrea (Terry) Meyer; grandchildren, Skylar (Marcus) Ough, Brynley Bertsch, Kade Gilstad, Colvyn (Carolyn) Gilstad, Chandler, Snell and Killian Snell, Reegan Meyer; great-grandson, Tatum Ough; brother, Marlan (Beverly) Helgeson; special friend, Herman Meier; in-laws, Gerald Bertsch, Ronald Bertsch, Sheila Stamm.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Alley; parents, Engvald and Anna; mother and father-in-law; sister, Sylvia Johnson; brothers, Marvin (Vivian) Helgeson, Emil (Helen) Helgeson, and Gaylord (Darlene) Helgeson; brothers-in-law, Clarence (Dorothy) Bertsch, Jermone (Gloria) Bertsch, H.E. Larry (Irene) Bertsch, Robert Stamm; sister-in-law, Viola (Robert) Kalkopf.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Lansford Cemetery, Lansford, ND.

Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Friday at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to American Diabetes Association, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and Lansford Cemetery.
